A topic that resonates: Glass Children and the award-winning film The Other

Film Category

Marie-Magdalena Kochová's documentary The Other is celebrating success across the country, winning the Czech Competition Jury Prize for Best Film at the One World Festival, the Prague section of which ended on March 20th.

The documentary is a portrait of a girl living in the shadow of her disabled sister. For the director, it is a personal topic – she herself grew up as “the other one” or a glass child. We think it is a personal topic for many of us, whether directly or indirectly (school, work, friends, extended family...). We have prepared a panel discussion for you after the screening on Friday, April 25th at 7:00 PM with two women who have something to say on the topic.

Míša Svobodová has been accompanying families with a disabled child for fifteen years through the early care social service. Her goal is to support families during a difficult period when they discover that their child has developmental difficulties. She works for Portimo in Nové Město na Moravě.

Jana Bukvová comes from Nové Město na Moravě and when she was 14, her sister was born with a severe combined disability. Living with her sister led her to study Social Work and Politics after high school. She lives in Prague and has been involved in fundraising, major donor care and training in the field for over 18 years. The panel is moderated by Ivona Čermáková.
