Before the festival officially kicks off in March, One World invites you to a film preview in the form of the gala premiere of It Was Just an Accident. Director and Palme d’Or winner Jafar Panahi unfolds a seemingly inconspicuous situation that gradually turns into a gripping moral probe into guilt, memory, and justice. The screening will take place at Lucerna Cinema on Tuesday, 17 February at 8:00 PM.
The story is set in present-day Tehran and follows Vahid, a former political prisoner. After years, he unexpectedly encounters a man who reminds him of his sadistic torturer from prison. Vahid is thus forced to make a crucial decision about whether to take revenge. Although he is plagued by doubts about whether this truly is the same man, he struggles to suppress thoughts of a spontaneous kidnapping.
This tragicomic thriller offers a raw look at a regime determined to break human dignity at any cost. Panahi, a key figure of the Iranian dissent, infuses the drama with his personal experience. He asks whether it is possible to resist a brutal political system through an individual who serves it with complete devotion.
The screening is organized in cooperation with the distribution company Artcam. After the film, a discussion will follow with Iran specialists Mona Khademi and Zuzana Kříhová, moderated by an Iran expert Matouš Horčička.
Tickets can be purchased now via GoOut.
